twd: chocolate oatmeal almost-candy bars

my motivation for creating minutes&measure was to join tuesdays with dorie (twd). (that’s dorie greenspan, by the way, and twd is a group of bloggers baking their way through her book baking: from my home to yours.) i knew these chunky bars would be a fun first recipe after reading greenspan’s intro tipping that they are good chilled or even out of the freezer, which is one of my favorite ways to eat sweets and especially chocolate. (yeah, i know. it’s not the proper way to appreciate the flavor of quality chocolate, but there’s just something about the crunch…) what i’m not crazy about are peanuts in my desserts, so i omitted them in the chocolate layer (enough already that they’re in the oatmeal layer). and, honestly, i’m not completely in love with the combination of ingredients here, especially those peanuts and the cinnamon. but i haven’t stopped eating them since they came out of the oven, so i guess that says something too. lillian of confectiona’s realm picked chocolate oatmeal almost-candy bars as the featured recipe for the week of january 19, 2010.
